School bus safety is the responsibility of all stakeholders parents, teacher & bus staff. Our responsibility does not end at bus stop. We should teach our children to use the School bus properly and safely.
CHILDREN SHOULD BE TAUGHT THAT WHILE BOARDING THE BUS:
F Do Not Hurry, wait till the bus stops.
F Enter the bus in single file line.
F Hold hand rail and enter.
F Ensure that your bag or clothes don't get stuck anywhere.
F Go straight to your seat.
F Be seated properly and face forward.
F Do not put any part of your body outside the bus.
F Do not travel on footboard.
F Keep the aisle clear.
F Do not make much noise and distract driver.
F Follow the instruction of driver and conductor.
F Do not be in a hurry, wait till the bus stops.
F Use handrail to get off the bus.
F Exit from the front door of the bus.
F Be visible to the driver while alighting.
F Do not crawl under the bus to pick up lost things.
F Never move behind the bus, the blind spot of driver.
Road Safety Tips for Pedestrian
Though Pedestrian is the most important constituent of traffic, he belongs to high risk group on road. In order to remain safe from perils of road, pedestrian should cultivate the habit of using road infrastructure in proper manner. Subways, Zebra Crossings, Foot over bridges should be used to cross the road. Short cuts & easy options of crossing roads are dangerous & should not be resorted to.
Simple Actions On Road Will Keep You Safe:
F Walk with care & with all sense
F Look towards oncoming traffic.
F Never assume driver has seen you when you are about to cross the road, it’s your responsibility to save yourself.
F Avoid crossing road where drivers may not be able to see you.
F Wait for suitable gap in the traffic flow before crossing the road.
F Never jump over the divider railings. You may tumble on to the traffic.
F Always hold hands of children while crossing the road.
F Avoid using roads for morning walks and jogging.
F Take extra care if you have to cross the road on or nearest a crest or curve.
F Avoid crossing road between parked cars.
F Crossing road by the shortest and most direct route reduces your time on road.
Children are more susceptible to the dangers of road. It is not solely the drivers of the vehicles who cause accidents but carelessness of children and lack of awareness which add up to the cause of accidents on road. Teach your brothers and sisters to walk on footpath, encourage him/her to use subways, zebra crossing etc. If you will do the right thing on road, your brothers and sisters will also follow you and will remain safe in traffic.
TO CROSS THE ROAD CHILDREN SHOULD LEARN FOLLOWING:
F Stop at the kerb.
F Look at your right, left and right again.
F Ensure that no vehicle is approaching. Then walk across the road.
Safer cycling tips for cyclist
As bicycle is the most popular and widely used non-motorized vehicle, a cyclist should know the traffic rules. Almost 40% of injuries and fatalities of cyclists happen to children below 16 years. Never learn cycling on public roads. Learn it in safer places like parks or play ground in the presence of an adult. Your knowledge of cycling is incomplete, if you do not know the preliminaries of road safety.
ALWAYS:
F Keep cycle in working condition. Check brakes, tyre, air pressure, bell, light and chain before you ride it.
F Obey traffic signals. While taking turns watch out for traffic and give signal by hand.
F Do not overload. Cycle is for one and maximum for two.
F Move on the left side of the road.
F Avoid overtaking. Be in single file if the road is narrow.
F No acrobatics on road, keep both hands on the handle bar.
F If available use only cycle tracks.
F Remain constantly alert on the roads.
F Wear bright clothes and have bright light at night.
F Use reflective tape on cycle
